External Fixator

An external fixator is a device with pins or wires that go from the bone to a rod or ring outside the bone. These may be used to stabilize a broken bone or to slowly correct a bent or deformed bone over time.

Figure: A child with a right thigh external fixator. The silver parts of the external fixator are connected to the bone (femur) in the thigh.
