Dear Doctor

February 2019

Question:

Could hip dysplasia be treated with massage? Once my daughter was diagnosed (she was 4 months old then), I was told to take her to a massage specialist. I understand it's not an option, but could it have a beneficial effect on her?

Answer:

Massage will not help hip dysplasia. There is no beneficial effect of which we are aware. You need to see a pediatric orthopedic surgeon as soon as possible because the younger she is when treated, the better chance of a good outcome.
