Dear Doctor

November 2015

Question:

My child and his friend both had broken bones in their arms. My child's friend was able to get a short cast that was below the elbow, but my child had to get a long cast that was above the elbow. How come they had different casts?

- Lori - Dallas, TX (Parent)

Answer:

All fractures are different. What kind of cast your child receives depends on where the fracture was in the bone and what kind of fracture it was. Your pediatric orthopaedist has chosen the cast that is best suited to treat your child's particular fracture.
